Application for the 2018 Ecclesia Institute

Ecclesia is a month-long formation program that plunges participants into the heart of the life of the Catholic Church through rigorous coursework in theology and philosophy, intense liturgical reverence, and cultivation of the arts in a unique and truly authentic experience of the universal Church. Through studies, prayer, theatrical productions, soccer matches, and much more, participants come to discover greater awareness of humanity and an ever-deepening thirst for Christ.

Application Requirements:

  1. You must be 18 years of age by June 18th, 2018.
  2. Application must be submitted no later than May 15th.
  3. A non-refundable application fee of $29.50 must be submitted.
  4. By submitting this form you are granting permission of the Ecclesia Staff to review the content of your application confidentially.

Admission to the Ecclesia Institute:

All applications will be reviewed promptly and applicants will be receive notification from the Ecclesia staff within seven days. Admission into the Ecclesia Summer Institute is based on the applicants ability to participate fully in all aspects of the program.

Participant Expectations
The following questions are based on the expectations of individuals at the Ecclesia Institute. Please be honest about whether or not you foresee any problems meeting these expectations.
Internet usage in the common computer lounges is limited to the hours of 1:30 pm – 11:30pm every day. Past this hour, internet may be accessed in individual rooms, but please use it with discretion and with respect to roommates. Are you willing/able to meet this expectation?
For the good of the community at Ecclesia, we ask that cell phones only be used during free times. Please do not use your cell phone during any of the group activities, classes, or prayer times at Ecclesia. Are you willing/able to meet this expectation?
There is a “no alcohol” policy, both on and off the campus, for all participants, for the duration of the Ecclesia Institute. Are you willing/able to meet this expectation?
The University of Mary is a tobacco free campus. We ask all participants to respect this policy by refraining from all tobacco use at the University of Mary (which is basically the entire month). Are you willing/able to meet this expectation?
No drug use is permitted any time during the Ecclesia Institute. Are you willing/able to meet this expectation?
Participants are not allowed to leave campus outside of regularly scheduled excursions except under special circumstances. Participants who desire to leave campus outside of scheduled Ecclesia Institute events must first obtain the permission of their assembly leader. Are you willing/able to meet this expectation?
Participants are expected to stay out of the rooms of participants of the opposite sex. Also, All residence hall floors at the University of Mary require residents to live in the spirit of silence beginning at 11:00 pm. Considering the high demands of the Ecclesia Institute schedule, a midnight “lights out” policy is highly encouraged. Common spaces are closed at midnight. All scheduled activities must be attended unless permission is granted (by the participant’s assembly leader) to miss them. This applies to communal activities and prayer times as well as classes. Are you willing/able to meet this expectation?
In general, to respect the common life, participants are to remain in modest dress throughout the entirety of the Ecclesia Institute. Are you willing/able to meet this expectation?
All participants must follow directions given by the Ecclesia Institute Staff. The program will certainly entail schedule changes and unexpected events.
